Blackjack is one of the more popular games in most casinos, because it gives the players the maximum options in order to win, and with careful play, the player can actually turn the house edge to his advantage. However, when playing blackjack, you are playing against the house, and the dealer has very specific actions he must perform during the game. The dealer's options begin with the house rules that he must draw 16 or lower and must stand on a total of 17 or higher.
For example, if a dealer's up-card is 2 and his hole-card is a 10, then he must take more cards until he stands on seventeen. On the other hand, if his up card is a 8 and his hole-card is a 10, then he must stand. Any player, whose hand is higher than the dealer's wins, provided it is no more than 21. A player whose hand equals that of the player does not win any money, but gets his bet returned to him. Some casinos require the dealers to stand with a soft 17 (an Ace and a 6) while others require them ti hit. These dealer options are strictly enforced by law both in Nevada and in Atlantic City Casinos.
Remember why blackjack is so popular among the games in the casinos. Only ecause of the great amount of options that the players have during the course of the game, and only because of the restrictions placed on the dealers. With the right knowledge, you can really turn these things to your advantage! Written by Lars Kinkleton, Editor, 30.11.05
