On July 21st, 2008, GSN will debut Catch 21, a brand new game show from Merrill Heatter that is based on a well-known internet blackjack game. The forty episode show, made by Heatter-who is also the maker of Hollywood Squares fame-and executive made by Scott Sternberg, factors in pop trivia with blackjack. The host of the show, Alfonso Ribiero, which is best known for his stint on the 90's sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, will ask 3 contestants as they compete to get as close to twenty-one.
With every card hand given to them, the contestants receive the opportunity to make their opponent's card hand worse by choosing to pass their cards. After 3 preliminary rounds, the last participant standing will go up against the casino for an opportunity to win $25,000. The Catch 21 show is the latest evidence of a cross platform partnership for GSN.
The Internet game-made by WorldWinner, owned by Liberty Media Corporation, a collaborator with Sony Pictures Entertainment in GSN- challenges blackjack player to go through with a deck of cards. It is one of the most in demand games on the online site. The senior Vice President of programming for GSN, Jamie Roberts commented that Merrill Heatter is already a legend in the industry and both he and Scott Sternberg Productions have done a really good job on introducing blackjack in a more interesting setting. GSN will also show a thirty minutes behind the scenes special of Catch 21 on July 19th, 2008.
