On July 23rd, 2008, blackjack has triumphantly arrived in South Florida and it does not appear to stop soon. The Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida is continuing on offering casino table games even with the decision of the Florida state Supreme Court invalidating the gaming compact between the Seminole Tribe and Governor Charlie Crist.
The gaming compact had given the tribe the go signal to offer Class III slot machines and card games like blackjack. It was not first known on what will be the move of the legal team of the Seminole Tribe. But after several weeks, it is clear that they have decided that not doing anything is their best legal option right now. The Seminoles continue their slots and card game operations in Hard Rock and have no plans on stopping it soon.
The officials are also in no hurry to stop the games. The probability is strong that once the Seminole Tribe asks the federal government to intervene on the matter, the tribe will immediately get the opportunity to offer the games. The Seminole Tribe by law is allowed to offered games that are allowed under the state law. The Broward County has legalized Class III slot machines for pari-mutuels.
Blackjack, baccarat and other Las Vegas type games are considered to be class III games. The Seminole tribe said that if Class III gaming is allowed on the state, they can also offer the games. There is still a chance that the Seminole Tribe will negotiate for a new gaming compact with the legislature before using the federal route as their last option.
